KING FAHAD MEDICAL CITY - PPNNCC
Al-Latifia is executing a project within King Fahad Medical City (KFMC) to expand the existing campus and add new integrated services. The project is being delivered in Joint Venture with Habtoor Leighton Group.
PPNNCC features the following additions to KFMC:
- Two 11 story buildings, which will house the National Neurosciences Institute and the Comprehensive Cancer Centre.
- A three story building for the new Cardiac Centre.
- A seven story building for laboratories and offices.
- Central Services Building.
- Proton Therapy Centre.
The Proton Therapy Centre is the first in the Middle East and 1 of 57 around the world. Proton Therapy is a highly specialized method to treat cancer in which charged protons are shot at cancer cells with extreme accuracy, minimizing damage to the surrounding tissue. Due to the radiation risks of the facility, the construction phase requires special precaution. The facility is enclosed by up to 4 meters thick concrete with an 80 cm steel plate being placed in the middle of the walls, floor and ceiling, which created several engineering challenges to overcome.
With a total built up area of 234,000 m2, the expansion will add 510 new hospital beds and several specialized services including oncology and cardiology. This project is raising the level of services available to the community and we are proud to be a part of the team that is responsible for its development.
